2016 Ontario Invitational Art Exhibit

A community favorite, the Eighth Biennial Ontario Invitational Art Exhibition features unique artworks by local and regional artists. The award winners from the 2015 Ontario Open Art Exhibition will debut their most recent work in painting, mixed media, photography, drawing, and sculpture. Join me as I unveil a new series of paintings at this exhibit.

Faces of the Community Exhibit

April 2 through August 7, 2016
Ontario Museum of History and Art

Explore the history of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and its neighborhood in Ontario at the Ontario Museum of History & Art, Carlson Gallery. Through individual interviews and drawings, artist Andrea Benitez documented the personal histories, experiences and memories of twenty individuals associated with the church in one of the oldest Hispanic neighborhoods. A new aspect of the exhibit is the display and explanation of objects in connection with these individuals and other members.

The exhibit is part of Ontario’s 125th Anniversary in 2016, in conjunction with “Heritage at the Square” Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Ontario Town Square, from 3 PM to 7 PM. 

This project was produced with grant support from the Community Foundation Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, in collaboration with the Ontario Museum of History & Art, Associates, Chaffey Community Museum of Art, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

Faces of the Community Book Release Celebration!
The Ontario Museum of History and Art published the Faces of the Community documentary project into a book! Faces of the Community was a documentary project that captured the diverse neighborhood surrounding Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Ontario through a series of interviews of the local residents. The portraits were first exhibited in March 2015 at the Chaffey Community Museum of Art. The book release and celebration event took place November 14, 2015 at the Ontario Museum of History and Art. Museum of History and Art, Ontario Associates present the Eighth Biennial Ontario Open Art Exhibition. This juried exhibition features artwork in a variety of media by dozens of local and regional artists. The exhibition juror will be Rebecca Trawick the Director/Curator at the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art, located on the campus of Chaffey College. Since 2012 Trawick has served as a Founding Board Member and Secretary for Arts Connection: The Arts Council of San Bernardino County. Trawick served as juror at the 2014 National Orange Show Exhibition, the 2012 43rd Annual Student Exhibition at RAFFMA, CSUSB; and Chaffey College Temporary Art Park in 2008. 

Reception and Awards Presentation 
Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The Award Presentation will begin at 6 PM. This event is free.

This exhibit is part of a collaboration between CCMA and the Museum of History and Art, Ontario, with funding by The Community Foundation. The exhibit captures the diverse personality of the community surrounding Our Lady of Guadalupe parish on South Sultana Street in Ontario. For this series I interviewed 20 parish members to document their personal histories, experiences and memories. Each interview culminated in a portrait accompanied by a short narrative. Through the exhibit, viewers will be introduced to the members of the church and learn of their aspirations, memories and unique events they have experienced.
